The new worktop

The new kitchen is nearing completion, today the granite worktop goes in and tomorrow the electrician should be here to connect up all the lights and appliances.

The photo shows the guys from Chiltern Marble laying the pieces of worktop down and beginning the task of getting everything aligned and jointed. The smell of resin adhesive is in the air and they expect to finish work within the next couple of hours.

The room is starting to look like a kitchen now. For such a long time it was a building site as the steel joist went in and walls came down, one window was bricked up and another one enlarged. Compare today's picture with this one less than a month earlier.

It's all going to be worth it in the end. We will have a larger, more usable kitchen with space for people to sit and chat. A kitchen should be a place for meeting, chatting and enjoying time with friends, not only a place to cook. In the old kitchen there was nowhere to sit and no way to make space.

This is a kitchen that will be well used, I think.
